LeMay – America’s Car Museum located in Tacoma is a noteworthy gallery of cars you must experience for yourself. With countless vehicles all in one place, there is something for all to get amped up about. Whether you are a collector or a big fan of cars, this experience will entice you!
Exhibits
There are currently nine exhibitions to explore at America’s Car Museum including the BMW – Propelling a Century of Innovation, Lucky’s Garage, and Master Collectors exhibits. While all are worth your time visiting, here are two you don’t want to miss:
Legends of Motorsports: The NASCAR Story
Take a look at the history of NASCAR that began with farmers racing their family sedans on shifty dirt tracks to the modern day sport we know it to be today as NASCAR. With 70 millions plus fans, this beloved sport has a special American tale of passion and fast cars. Discover the people that have reigned the NASCAR tracks over time, see the machinery that lets drivers walk away from incredulous crashes unharmed, and meet the fans who live and breathe the sport.
Summer Drive Series: Hot Rods in Route 66
In recognition of America’s classic roadway, Route 66, America’s Car Museum is showcasing the “Dream of the Mother Road” with a collection of cars and relics. Route 66 at one point connected Chicago to the Pacific Ocean and was driven on by millions of Americans. This road is deemed so American that it has become an embedded part of our cultural story. The legendary hot rod and the most talked about road make up this one exemplary exhibit.
Collection
The ACM Collections includes automotive artifacts and 250 automobiles from over 100 years of car history and about 100 vehicles on loan from private collections. Distinctive to ACM is their open storage galleries for collection vehicles that are not actively being showcased, giving visitors the chance to see most of the collection. You will find both domestic and foreign marques to marvel over.
Activities
There are many attractions at ACM depending on what you would like to experience. Take a tour led by a trained instructor, watch a movie about cars at the State Farm Theatre, have your picture shot in a 1923 Buick Touring car, test your racing skills on CXC racing simulators or take a drive around the slot car track. There is also a Family Zone where all ages can partake in hands-on learning.
